Pre & Post-operative Care
What happens before and after Sclerotherapy treatment? We hope our Pre & Post Operative Care guide will assist you.
What To Expect During The Treatment
The treatment is performed while you are lying down. The doctor will guide a very fine needle to the centre of the vein and inject a precise amount of solution into the vessel, sealing the vein off at that point. A cotton dressing is then taped over the treated vein and a compression stocking is worn for a time following the completion of your treatment. The doctor will advise how long these should be worn for at the time of your consultation, and usually depend on the size of veins treated.
You are strongly advised to walk for a minimum of twenty minutes, twice each day to reduce the pressure on the superficial veins maximise results and minimize the risk of side effects following your treatment.
It is best to wear loose slacks or a long flowing skirt to your appointment, as they will conceal the compression stocking. It is also a good idea to wear flat or sports shoes so you can walk comfortably after your procedure.
Avoid Body Lotions
Do not apply any moisturiser / body lotion / sunblock to your legs on the day of your treatment, nor use tanning products for at least 2 weeks prior to your treatment. If possible, do not expose your legs to the sun without 30+ Sunblock for at least a week prior to treatment.
